Empowering Change in the Waterberg,

South Africa

The Waterberg Trust is a charity committed to uplifting the people and protecting the place of the Waterberg, supporting education, health, environmental, and conservation projects throughout this rural corner of South Africa.

The Need

The Waterberg plateau is rich in biodiversity, but it is also home to rural communities where poverty, limited access to healthcare, and under-resourced schools affect the ability of the communities to thrive.

At the same time, growing pressures on the natural environment threatens the land and water systems that communities depend upon.

We help tackle these challenges in practical ways that strengthen life chances and support long-term care for the environment.

Our Projects

Education
Helping children and young people stay in school through bursaries, sponsorships and practical support.

Health
Improving access to basic healthcare, health education and essential services.

Welfare
Addressing everyday barriers to learning, including food insecurity, uniforms and sanitary protection.

Environmental awareness and conservation
Enabling young people to learn about conservation and the unique Waterberg biosphere. By educating the young, we speak to the grown ups twice as loudly. This results in entire villages caring about the environmental consequences of their actions which encourages them to make better eco-friendly decisions.

Our projects are shaped by local needs and delivered in partnership with the communities we support.

Our Impact

Every project we support is designed to make a real difference. By helping children stay in school, improving access to basic healthcare, and fostering pride and understanding of the Waterberg’s unique natural environment, our work strengthens individuals and communities alike.

Together with our partners, we are improving life chances, protecting dignity, and nurturing hope across the region.

Support our work

Small amounts go a long way in rural communities. Your donation can help provide school shoes, essential supplies, and ongoing support for families who fall through the cracks of social services.
