TWT's Annual Cycle Ride 2026
On Saturday 30th May 2026, 49 enthusiastic cyclists gathered in Cambridgeshire for The Waterberg Trust's annual charity cycle ride, taking on the beautiful countryside of Cambridgeshire and Bedfordshire to raise funds for communities in South Africa's Waterberg region.
The annual Cambs-to-Beds Cycle Ride has become a much-loved event in TWT's fundraising calendar, bringing together friends, families and supporters for a day of cycling, camaraderie and fundraising for a fantastic cause.
This year's ride offered a shorter route of approximately 45 miles and a longer challenge of around 75-80 miles for those feeling particularly energetic. Cyclists of all abilities were welcome, whether riding road bikes, hybrids or electric bikes.
A Day of Cycling, Sunshine and Spectacular Scenery
The day kicked off bright and early at 8am in Stapleford, just outside Cambridge, where riders gathered for a hearty breakfast and some last-minute preparations before setting off.
The route took cyclists through Cambridge and along the traffic-free cycleway towards St Ives, before winding through picturesque villages and countryside towards Bedfordshire. Along the way, riders were treated to some wonderful hospitality, including homemade Scotch eggs at the mid-morning stop and a well-earned lunch at Southill Park.
With the sun shining and temperatures rising, it was a challenging but thoroughly enjoyable day in the saddle!
Most riders finished their journey at the shorter route's endpoint, while six determined cyclists completed the full 80-mile challenge, returning to Stapleford via the villages of South Cambridgeshire.
The celebrations didn't end at the finish line. Riders, volunteers and supporters came together for a fantastic evening BBQ, rounding off a memorable day.
A Huge Thank You to Our Supporters
Events like this simply wouldn't be possible without the generosity and enthusiasm of everyone involved.
A huge thank you goes to all cyclists who took part, as well as the team leaders and incredible support volunteers who worked tirelessly throughout the day, keeping everyone fed, watered and safely on the move.
Special thanks also go to the Burles, Whitbread, Franklin and Tusa families for their wonderful hospitality along the route, to the Ormes for the organisation and to the Saunderson family for hosting both the start and the fabulous post-ride BBQ. Thanks also to Alice for expertly organising the safe transport of so many bicycles back to the start!
Above all, thank you to everyone who cycled, donated, volunteered or cheered from the sidelines. Your support makes a real difference.
Cycling to Make a Difference in the Waterberg
While the cycle ride takes place in the English countryside, its impact reaches much further, to the beautiful Waterberg region of Limpopo, South Africa.
The Waterberg Trust is a UK-registered charity dedicated to improving the lives and opportunities of people living in the Waterberg, while helping to protect the area's extraordinary natural environment.
Through its work, the Trust supports education, health and community development, helping children attend school regularly, access better opportunities and learn about the remarkable wildlife and ecosystems surrounding them.
Fundraising events such as the annual cycle ride are vital in helping the charity continue this important work. Every donation, every mile cycled and every hour volunteered contributes towards building a brighter future for communities in the Waterberg.
See You in 2027!
Following another wonderful year of cycling and fundraising, we're already looking forward to doing it all again!
